After two months of incessant labor, it’s finally finished: Sizz Tuna 2.0 is here. Sizz 2.na? Sizz Tu.0? Sizz… oh, forget it. The site’s been updated. You get the idea.
What exactly does this update entail? In truth, every single page has been touched up in one way or another. For some pages this is more obvious—the music page is completely new (garnering a sibling in the process), whereas reviews and gamerecs have had comprehensive infrastructure updates that aren’t as visually apparent. I couldn’t squeeze in any cool styling overhaul for the news pages here, but hey, at least navigation is a little better and the comment section looks nice.
Two of my larger overarching goals for this update were responsiveness and accessibility, which I had largely ignored up until now. All main pages (i.e. outside the Ocean) are now mobile-friendly to some degree, though I’m sure I’ll discover a plethora of kinks to work out the second I publish this and can see everything on my actual phone. I’ll note, however, that the way I accomplished this was via a simple check as to whether the viewer is in portrait or landscape, so aspect ratios in-between computer screen and smartphone will still look pretty janky. It’s a step forward, though! As for accessibility, I’ve pushed “easy-reader mode” into a (mostly) site-wide feature (try clicking in the top right corner right now!), with an adjustable font in the new info/help page. I’ve also added a decent amount of alt text and some features I hope will be helpful for screen-reader users and keyboard navigators, and have dipped my toes into semantic HTML tags. I will admit that I’m still very uneducated on the topic of accessibility, and my devotion to this goal may have started to fade as fatigue set in and the end of this programming vortex entered my sight… I seem to have found some new resources on the topic though, and would like to tackle this further in the future! It’s all about one step forward at a time.
Besides a boatload of reorganization that has hopefully created a much more sustainable file management system, the other big thing to note is that I’ve put some time into expanding the Ocean! There’s some new pages tucked around here and there, and since I have more experience now, I can confidently say that these ones have much greater structural integrity (nursing the ramshackle old pages back to health is a torment for another day). I hope you enjoy exploring around!
A more comprehensive list of changes can be found in the update archive, but the gist is more stuff, displayed more sleekly. It’s not perfect, but I’m generally proud of my work here. I cordially invite you to poke around this home of mine. I, meanwhile… need to go into hibernation. Or intense labor for the next two weeks. I, uh, guess that works too.
Sincerely,
Huh? I forgot.
